Does Blogging Help SEO

If you look at all major SEO companies, and digital marketing agencies, they will all have a blog. It is not a secret that YES, blogging does help with SEO, quite a lot.

Optimizing your content for SERPs though is important to make the content created to be any effective for its purpose.

1. Blogging keeps your website up-to-date

Have you ever been to a website that has not been updated for years? Do you read the content on that website? No right? Websites that are not updated regularly make readers lose trust immediately.

Similarly, it loses Google’s trust too. Google indexes websites that regularly update their content. More new content gives SERPs algorithms to continuously index your website putting you on the radar.

2. Blogs increases readers linger longer on the website

Google prioritizes showing content that people are searching for. If you make a Google search and click on the first link and immediately leave the page and go back to Google for the same search, Google will then understand that it wasn’t useful for you. Whereas, when someone clicks on a link and stays on it, this signals Google that the website is helpful.

Though Google doesn’t simply say that retention is a ranking factor, they sure do take it into consideration.

Whenever someone lands on a blog page of your website, they will spend more time on the page than pages with less text. The longer and more comprehensive the blog the better. Long-form content performs better on Google. Around 2000 words are considered a good number of words to categorize the content into long-form.

3. Blogs target long-tail keywords

Long-tail keywords are extremely important for any SEO strategy. More than half of the searches are made from 4 words or longer. And that is why they are the best words to target in a blog post.

They will target words that you usually can’t target through the text in the product descriptions or ALT texts.

4. Blogs create an opportunity for internal linking

A major part of SEO is internal linking. Plus internal links are the easiest links to get as you can create them yourself.  Though the main page has many opportunities for internal linking, creating a blog literally doubles your chances of linking internally.

HostGator says, “Every time you do so, you can strategically use the anchor text to better tell Google what the page you’re linking to is about – strengthening its connection to your target keywords in how the algorithm sees it.”

5. Blogs create an opportunity for backlinks

Backlinks are even more important than internal linking, backlinks build trust. The better quality of backlinks the better your ranking in SERPs. Google’s algorithm uses backlinks as one of its measures to check the quality of the website.

6. Blogs build a connection with your audience

When audiences love posts they have read on your website they are very likely to share it, hence driving more traffic to the website. They might even sign up for the mailing list if your content is good enough for them. When a website gets a lot of repeat visitors, it shows Google that people like your content and then Google raises your authority. A blog is essential for a website. Not only does it help with SEO alone, but it also builds online goodwill for your business and proclaims you as an authority in your industry.
